Sales by-the glass extended to Ontario Spirits Manufacturers

March 16, 2018. Spirits Canada and Ontario’s distillers warmly welcome the extension of sales and service “by-the-glass” to Ontario spirits manufacturers.

Previously restricted to breweries and wineries, an amendment this week to Ontario Liquor Licence Act Regulation 719 “Licenses to sell Liquor” now provides equal opportunity for spirits manufacturers.

“This was one of those really annoying anomalies in Canadian regulation that discriminated against spirits and spirits manufacturers for no good reason”, said
Jan Westcott, President & CEO of Spirits Canada. “The ability for licensed spirits manufacturers to enhance the visitor experience at their own facilities by serving the products made on-site will be incredibly valuable to Ontario distillers of all
sizes”.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO)’s “by-the-glass” initiative allows Ontario licensed beverage alcohol manufacturers to sell and serve their own beverage alcohol to patrons for consumption in single servings at their manufacturing site to provide an enhanced tourist and educational experience. Ontario Spirits are amongst the highest value-added Canadian processed agrifood products and are made from 100% locally grown cereal grains.
