Over One Million Litres of Alcohol for Hand Sanitizers a Month Committed by Canada’s Distillers

Ottawa & Toronto ʹ April 24, 2020 – Today, the Exchange is pleased to announce that over one million litres of high-grade alcohol per month has been committed bLJ Canada͛s largest distillers. Through our exchange, this alcohol has been matched with various manufacturers of handsanitizers across the country. To put this volume into perspective, 1 million litres would have been sufficient to produce nearly the entire 2019 supply of hand-sanitizers for the consumer retail market prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hand-sanitizers are recognized as one of the effective tools in combatting the transfer of the COVID-19 virus and a measure that can be easily and safely utilized by everyone in stopping the spread of this disease.
NOTICE TO MANUFACTURERS OF NATURAL HEALTH PRODUCT (NHP) HAND SANITIZER PRODUCTS DURING THE PANDEMIC COVID-19

(TORONTO, March 26, 2020) – Health Canada is issuing this notice in response to a number of questions coming from companies that are not currently manufacturers of health products, but have expressed interest in manufacturing hand sanitizers for public distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health Canada is establishing an interim approach to support those companies in acquiring the needed licences during this public health emergency. Following this, Health Canada intends to discontinue this approach and returns to its regular licensing approach for hand sanitizers.
